Spring 1999 Production
The spring performance of the Antelope Valley
Ballet was held June 5th and 6th at the Lancaster performing Arts Center. It
featured the following dances:
- Angelic Journey - Choreography by Lara Arnaiz,
music by Laura Hemenway and Timothy Story, based on a previous work by Lara Arnaiz;
scenery and costumes by Lara Arnaiz. World Premiere June 5, 1999.
- Sleeping Beauty, Act III Grand Pas de Deux - Choreography by Kathleen
Burnett after Marius Petipa; music by Tchaikovsky; featuring Alec Donovan and guest
artist Crystal Allen; costumes by Diana
Vandergriff and were courtesy of Cincinnati Ballet. Sleeping Beauty premiered in
1890, but is a World Premiere for the Antelope Valley Ballet June 5, 1999.
- Pointe &
Shoot - Choreography by Kathleen Burnett; music by Justin C. Burnett; story by
Kathleen Burnett, John Gaylord, and J. Max Burnett; scenery by Casey Doss; costumes by
Kathleen Burnett. When Arthur Forsythe is found dead at his birthday party, family
secrets unfold and unravel a well-to-do family in this whodunit murder mystery
ballet. Special guest appearance by John Gaylord. World Premiere.
- Sports - Choreography by Kathleen Burnett;
music by Rimsky-Korsakov, Khachaturian, Smetana, Anderson, Sousa; costumes by Kathleen
Burnett; voiceover by J.Max Burnett and Nathan Brooks Burgess. Sports premiered by
the Oklahoma Festival Ballet in 1995. Basketball is a World Premiere June 5,
1999. Sports is a comic ballet about the fun of athletics.
Guest
Artist Crystal Allen is currently a
member of Cincinnati Ballet where she was selected by Frederick Franklin to be the Snow
Queen in The Nutcracker. She was also cast as the Lilac Fairy in their
recent production of The Sleeping Beauty, as the Captain in Con Amore,
and also as the Solo Girl in Balanchine's Rubies. As a member of the
Oklahoma Festival Ballet, Ballet Omaha, and Virginia Ballet, Miss allen danced the role of
Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty, Le Corsaire Grand Pas de Deux, and the
Sugar Plum fairy in The Nutcracker, as well as many other roles. In
addition to her studies at Pacific Northwest Ballet School and Dance Aspen, in 1997 Miss
Allen received her B.F.A. in Ballet Performance at the University of Oklahoma and is
currently working on her M.F.A. This season she was offered a position with Ballet
West in Salt Lake City. This is Crystal's second appearance with the AVB.
